Milltown Primary School students were determined to meet their challenge.
And by doing so, these eager students stamped their names with their signatures on the wall in the Milltown cafeteria.
Milltown’s students and staff were involved in activities all week when the Week of Respect was held throughout the school district.
The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District, as well as all public schools in New Jersey, have recognized the Week of Respect from Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11.
The Week of Respect is in accordance with the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, a New Jersey law that was signed into effect in 2011 to combat bullying in public schools.
The law requires that New Jersey public schools acknowledge the importance of social and emotional learning while emphasizing age-appropriate instruction that will focus on preventing harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB).
Milltown’s quest to thwart bullying was under the guidance of the school’s devoted School Counselor and Anti-Bullying Specialist, Stephanie Campisi.
She explained the project that the Milltown Mountain Lions were able to achieve.
“Throughout the week in our cafe, students had the chance to challenge themselves to do something kind to another friend. They choose from a number of different activities, examples being to “sit with a new friend at lunch” or “give three new friends a compliment.”
Ms. Campisi revealed the final step during this crucial exercise.
“Once they completed this activity, they signed their name on the card and added it to our “Respect Challenge “ wall in the cafe.”
She added:
“We loved seeing children taking ownership or practicing how to show respect in all different ways.’
Here are the daily themes and the clothing that the students and staff followed and wore during the Week of Respect.
Monday, October 7: Respect Yourself. A favorite piece of clothing or accessory was worn.
Tuesday, October 8: Team Up For Respect. Team shirts or jerseys of favorite sports teams were the apparel.
Wednesday, October 9: Give Peace A Chance. Tie dye and peace symbols were the clothing of the day.
Thursday, October 10: Be Mindful Of Our Words And Action. Pajamas and comfy clothes were the attire.
Friday, October 11: Milltown Mountain Lions Are Full Of Respect. Milltown Spirit Wear and school colors were the apparel.
