Hillside 5th grade band

The 5th Grade students who play in the band and orchestra are fast learners at the Hillside Intermediate School.

Despite not beginning practice until the start of school in September, both musical groups of 5th Graders delivered resounding performances when the Orchestra and Band Assembly was played before families and staff at Hillside on Thursday morning, December 5.

The Hillside gymnasium was the scene–and was mobbed with an enthusiastic crowd—when these talented 5th Graders put on their show.

Their conductors, Band Director Patricia Kearns and Orchestra Director Tom Lewis, were impressed with their quick-learning students.

“The Hillside 5th Grade Band did a great job on their first-ever concert! The students have only been playing for two and a half months and they played some familiar tunes like Merrily We Roll Along and Down By the Station,” Ms. Kearns said. “ Everyone enjoyed the show!”

“ One of my favorite parts of conducting the very first concert for 5th graders is watching the look of pride on their faces when they realize how much they have accomplished in such a short time,” Mr. Lewis revealed. “I'm very excited for all of the learning we have between now and our spring concert!”
