Hillside BackyardDay

The weather was uncooperative but the rain did not slow down the cooperative workers during Hillside Intermediate School’s Backyard Workday.

On the wet morning of Saturday, September 28, students, staff, and parents gathered for Hillside’s annual autumn cleanup of the school grounds.

Hillside’s Roots & Shoots Cub coordinated this cleanup under the direction of club Advisors Kiran Masud and Sean Smith.

Ms. Masud, who is a 5th Grade English Language Arts Teacher at Hillside explained the mission that was accomplished by an army of devoted volunteers on this rainy day.

“Armed with gloves, rakes, wheelbarrows, and trash bags, volunteers spread out across the school to clean up litter, mulch the trails, and maintain the butterfly garden,’ Ms. Masud reported.. "Volunteers worked to create a healthy habitat for the Backyard Workday.”

She was proud of the workforce who formed a sound cleanup unit.

“It was a celebration of the community spirit, reminding us of the positive impact we can have when we come together, proving that teamwork can create a lasting difference.”
