Crim chorus

Reading and singing go together quite well at the Crim Primary School.

That statement was proved on stage when the Crim Primary School 4th Grade Chorus performed on Thursday, April 10.

The students sang in the multi-purpose room for their schoolmates and Crim staff during that morning and then they produced a robust concert for their families and Crim staff in the afternoon.

This splendid production was under the guidance of Elizabeth Kane, Crim’s devoted Music Instructor.

She summarized the performance as well as the theme of the concert.

"I am so proud of the Crim 4th Grade Chorus. This year we themed our concert to celebrate children's literature, and we called our show Stories of My Life,” Ms. Kane said. “ I wanted to provide the students with an opportunity to reflect on their time here at Crim and their future at Hillside(Intermediate School).”

“There was no better way I could come up with than celebrating the one constant thing that is always there for children, their favorite books,” Ms. Kane revealed.

Ms. Kane went on to explain the purpose of the concert.

” Not only did the theme provide this trip down memory lane, but it also allowed for an interdisciplinary approach to teaching choral music,” she said. “Interdisciplinary learning is so important because it fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation by encouraging students to explore complex ideas from multiple perspectives, integrate knowledge from different fields, and develop adaptable skills for real-world challenges. Students got to compare and contrast real-world biographies with tall tale legend characters, analyze poetry, and read stories from all different genres.”

Ms. Kane closed the chapter on her summary:

“ I feel our students really got an opportunity to learn the power and beauty of text. Everything from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass to Eric Carl's The Lonely Firefly made an appearance in this concert,” she stated. “It wasn't easy, it was a tremendous amount of text for kids to memorize, in addition to all the musical demands. But, in true Crim fashion, they rose to the challenge and hit it out of the park! I could not be more proud of my students!"
